This has been a busy and eventful summer. There has been a lot of work done as well as a lot of changes in my life. The biggest of these is that I lost my mom, Helen Geneva Alderman, in August. She was one of my biggest fans and always encouraged me in my art and believed in me. She is already missed in so many ways.
Varnamtown: An Aging Life
Work is continuing on the project and the projected finishing date of the painting is around the first of the year. 13 of the major paintings are complete and so are the majority of the watercolors. For all of you that are getting a print for the Rocket Hub incentive gift you can go to “Varnamtown Prints Special Edition” and make a choice at anytime. You can also keep up with the new prints as they are done. You have the option of waiting until the project is completed to select your print. Once you select the print I will send out to you.
Discussions are now going on with a publisher here in Durham for putting the book together. I will keep you up to date

Garland Seafood
In July, I had a good meeting Jackie and Nicky Varnam, owners of Garland Seafood. This year they will celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the seafood house by Nicky’s father. While obviously delighted to be marking this historic event, they expressed concerns about the state of fishing in North Carolina and the future of Varnamtown. Jackie is currently the President of Brunswick Catch.
My new friend Gerry Monaco came to Varnamtown for a visit while I was painting on the dock at High Rider Seafood. We had met on Facebook and he decided to come down and meet me in the flesh. He retired to the area a few years ago. We spent some time talking about the many changes to the area. I’m looking forward to seeing him again while we are at the Southport boat show. Great visit!!!
